New Year’s Eve is so fun, even if you can only stay awake until 9:00! But if you are determined to stay up to see the big ball drop at midnight, you’re going to need snacks. Here are some of our favorite quick-and-easy, sweet and savory recipes to help keep your party energy up!
- Hot Spinach Dip. This crowd-pleaser is simple to prepare and even easier to serve alongside some sliced bread, pita chips, or tortilla chips. For an extra boost of luck in the new year, replace the spinach with wilted collard greens, known in the south to bring prosperity.
- Chocolate Cereal Crumbles. These little treats are great to have on-hand for guests of all ages. You can customize them however you like. Use your favorite cereal, then mix in things like chopped candy canes, toffee, pretzels, or cinnamon.
- Deviled Eggs. Yum times a million! Deviled eggs are perfect just the way they are, but you can add just about any savory ingredient to make them even more special. Hot sauce, chopped pickles, or even curry powder are a few fun ideas.
- Guacamole. It’s hardly a party without guacamole, served alongside tortilla chips and your favorite salsa. You can make the guacamole ahead of time, and to prevent browning, try this trick: place the guac in a bowl then use a spoon to smooth the top. Gently pour in enough water to completely cover the surface of the guacamole, then cover in plastic wrap, and refrigerate. When it’s time to serve, drain off the water, and give the guacamole a quick stir.
- Orange-Chipotle Chicken Wings. These are a bit more complicated than some of the other recipes, but they make a heartier dinner-time addition to a snack menu. Oranges are notoriously lucky, so these wings are the perfect – and most delicious -- way to bring good fortune in the new year.
