Irish Coffee

Makes 1 cup

Not to be confused with Irish cream, Irish coffee is a mixture of hot black coffee and Irish whiskey, with a delicate float of freshly whipped cream. Enjoy it sweetened, like we do here, or unsweetened if that’s more your taste.

Ingredients

  • Warm water, as needed
  • 8 ounces fresh, hot coffee
  • 1 1/2 ounces Irish whiskey
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh, lightly whipped cream

Directions

  1. Pour the warm water into a heat-proof coffee glass and let it sit for 60 seconds.
  2. Pour out the water and add the sugar, Irish whiskey, and coffee. Stir to dissolve the sugar, about 10 seconds.
  3. Pour the lightly whipped cream on the back side of a spoon into the coffee, and serve right away.
