Cranberry-Bourbon Relish

Makes about 4 cups

This cranberry relish can be prepared in advance. Store wrapped in the refrigerator for 2 weeks or in the freezer for 3 months. It is great with turkey, of course, but it's also a sweet and tangy accompaniment to roasted pork.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 3/4 cup light brown sugar, plus as needed to adjust sweetness
  • 3/4 cups orange juice (from about 3 oranges)
  • 1/4 cup bourbon
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon grated orange zest
  • 1/2 cup orange suprêmes (from about 1 orange)

Directions

  1. Bring the cranberries, brown sugar, orange juice, and bourbon to a simmer in a wide-mouth saucepancover medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium-lowcand simmer until the berries burst and the liquid is reduced and thickened, 15 to 20 minutes. Add the lemon zest, lemon juice, and orange zest. Taste and adjust the sweetness. Very gently fold in the orange suprêmes.
  2. Cool and serve chilled or at room temperature.
