Without using a bamboo mat, you can produce almost the same sort of sushi by hand rolling. But because hand-rolled sushi is not as firmly or evenly packed as the kind rolled in a mat, the hand-rolled type is eaten as is, without being cut into bite-sized rounds.
Ingredients
- 4 sheets nori, halved
- Sushi Rice
- Prepared wasabi paste, as needed
- 12 to 16 oz fish, such as tuna, yellowtail, red snapper, salmon, shrimp, crab (or krab), or other seasonal fish
- Cucumber, as needed
- Avocado, as needed
- Shiso leaf, as needed (optional)
Directions
- Place a “finger,” or two, of rice and filling ingredients onto a rectangle piece of nori, then roll up into a cone shape. Eat immediately, without cutting.
